You heard the tapes where he refers to Trayvon as a nigger and a coon and STILL AREN’T CONVINCED that this is a RACE issue

You feel like racism is a Black/White thing so since Zimmerman is now claiming his Latino heritage that this can’t be a race thing

You think that because of personal experience or prejudice a person has the right to use “fear” as an excuse to harm another human being

You believe Zimmerman acted in ‘self defense”

You believe that somehow Trayvon Martin was able to “attack Zimmerman from behind” though he was being followed by Zimmerman in a vehicle and then on foot

You believe that Zimmerman “stepped out of the car to see what street he was on” when he was “attacked” by Trayvon when he says plainly that he is following the child and is told to STOP by Sanford Police

You believe that a 140 lb boy could overpower an ARMED 250 lb man

You think it makes sense that Zimmerman felt “threatened” by Trayvon but proceeded to leave the safety of his vehicle to pursue this child on foot

kinda sums up some of my concerns about Occupy Wall Street. I hope white folks realize the privilege we have in calling this a revolution and not being mislabeled due to skin color, not being questioned as much as to if this is in fact a worthy and noble cause. I see a certain amount of white privilege in confronting cops. Though they do in fact oppress all of us, the more direct violence and negative consequnces hits lower class and person’s of color far harder.

Oh good, so I’m not the only one who isn’t shocked that the police used pepper spray on someone. Cause I don’t know about NYC, but the cops in the places I’ve lived have used it just as easily and often as they use words. And then tell us we’re lucky it wasn’t a gun.

CeCe McDonald is a young African American transgender woman charged with “second degree murder” after an incident that began when she was violently attacked because of her gender and race.

CeCe is a creative and energetic person who, before her life was so unjustly interrupted, was studying fashion at MCTC. She had a stable home where she lived with and helped support four other African American youth, her family. CeCe’s family describes her as a leader, a role model, and a loyal friend. She is known as a wise, out-spoken, and welcoming person, with a cheerful disposition and a history of handling prejudice with amazing grace.

Around 12:30 am on June 5, CeCe and four of her friends (all of them black) were on their way to Cub Foods to get some food. As they walked past Schooner’s Bar in South Minneapolis, a man and two women (all of them white) began to yell epithets at them. They called CeCe and her friends ‘faggots,’ ‘niggers,’ and ‘chicks with dicks,’ amongst other things.

As they were shouting, one of the women smashed her drink into the side of CeCe’s face, slicing her cheek open, lacerating her salivary gland, and stinging her eyes with liquor. A fight ensued, with more people joining in. What happened during the fight is unclear, but within a few minutes Dean Schmitz–one of the attackers–had been stabbed.

CeCe was later arrested, and is now falsely accused of murder

For a month, CeCe was kept in solitary confinement “for her own protection”; she had no say in this matter. Finally, she was transferred to a psychiatric unit in the Public Safety Facility. It was nearly two months before she was taken back to a doctor to check up on the wound on her face, which by then had turned into a painful, golf ball-sized lump.

Later on, CeCe’s friends were harassed on the street by people they recognized from the scene of the fight. Individuals circled the block that CeCe’s friends were walking on and called them ‘niggers’ and ‘faggots’ and told them to ‘go back to Africa.’ When they attempted to wave down a passing squad car for assistance, the officer driving the car said he would not help them.

Black Mother Jailed For Sending Kids to White School District 

 

An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was sentenced by Judge Patricia Cosgrove on Tuesday and will begin serving her sentence immediately.

The jury deliberated for seven hours and the courtroom was packed as the sentence was handed down. She was convicted on two counts of tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living with Williams Bolar’s father when they actually lived with her. The family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio, and the father’s address was in nearby Copley Township.

Additionally, Williams-Bolar’s father, Edward L. Williams, was charged with a fourth-degree felony of grand theft, in which he and his daughter are charged with defrauding the school system for two years of educational services for their girls. The court determined that sending their children to the wrong school was worth $30,500 in tuition.

Secondly, it’s interesting how courts find it convenient to make someone into an example when they happen to be poor and black. I’d love to see how they prosecute wealthy white women who commit the same offense. Oh, I forgot: Most wealthy white women don’t have to send their kids to the schools located near the projects.

This is quite a disgraceful act of so called “justice.” Why should a mother be jailed for wanting better educations for her daughters? The real crime is not that of Mrs. Williams-Bolar, but that of the racial divides in our education system. Not only does the system remain segregated, but virtually exclusive as well. When one thinks about how the mother even ended up in court is shady. Obviously someone found it suspicious that two black children were attending a predominantly white school. 

What about the harsh actions of the judge? Prosecutors were fine with probation, however with the felony charge of simply ten days in jail, the mother is ineligible to teach in the state of Ohio. Which, she took on to improve the lives of her children. 

This is absolutely disgusting and I’m more disturbed by the lack of outrage or leadership by civil rights group. Where is the NAACP? Where is the ACLU? 

Why am I just NOW hearing about this today…via Tumblr? I WORK IN EDUCATION, FOR FUCK’S SAKE. Shame on you, America.

okay maybe i’m not getting the connection, but the title of the article and the statement at the beginning of the article don’t make sense. if she sent them to a school in a district in which they didn’t live, regardless of their race, that’s illegal. however, if the school district is specifically segregated, that’s messed up. 

What’s messed up is that you’d never see a white parent get punished like this for doctoring papers to get their kid into a better school district. My mother did it with me, for crying out loud. And I’m fairly sure the school knew about it, but did nothing.

What’s messed up is that black neighborhoods and communities in this country have historically got the short end of the stick when it comes to schools and other resources. They could be living one block away from a wealthy white school district, but still be receiving only a fraction of what that district gets in terms of funds for education. The school districts may not be LEGALLY segregated, but you can be damn sure there are decision makers and policies in place that lead to the segregation of white communities and black communities. And guess which community always benefits?

I don’t care if it’s against the law. The law is unjust. A mother trying to provide the best education possible for her children is going to jail, has to pay outrageous fines, and has lost her chance at a career that she was pursuing in order to provide a better life for her kids. Why? Because she dared to try and send her children to a better school district.

Show me one white woman who has committed the same crime and has received anywhere near the same harsh punishment. 

This is heartbreaking.

I am not a racist. BUT.
I’ve resorted to googling “scholarships for white people” because my work in high school can’t buy my way into college, but maybe the color of my skin can.
I hate how racist this world has become on both sides. I rarely look at the color of someone’s skin, pretty…

It’s a real tragedy they don’t have white privilege scholarships. You should start a rally. 

” My family is in debt. I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck. I have a job. My car isn’t brand new.”

But you have a car. Fuck girl, you have a JOB. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO, BASED STRICTLY ON THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN OR THE WAY THEY TALK, WILL BE TURNED DOWN FOR JOBS ON A REGULAR BASIS.

This girl is in high school.
